Definition: Privacy Restriction is a determination of the confidentiality of a data element or data collection. An item is considered restricted if it is thought that access to the item might lead to a compromise of security or confidentiality. Generally this means that data are restricted to only those with a “need to know” in order to do their jobs.

What This Means: As used in DataSpecs, privacy restriction is a description of the general level of privacy restriction associated with the Collection, Repository Table, or Output/Report. The privacy restriction options can be updated through System Administration/System Tables.
